Day three is here and it's our last full day! And boy did we have a lot to fit in!
First things first we woke up, walked to Starbucks (there's one on every corner! literally. no complaints here!), and hopped on the subway headed downtown. Our first stop was Ground Zero and the 911 Memorial Museum.
Our view as we stepped out of the subway. The bottom sculpture seen here is currently being built and the finished product will look like a dove and will be the entrance to the subway |

My pretty MaMa and I enjoying our last full day |
Inside the 911 Memorial Museum, the main, large parts of the building
were able to be photographed, but inside the actual museum, no photos
were allowed. If you're in New York, I highly recommend. Although, eat a
good breakfast before! We skipped that part and I regretted it. Because
it's long. You could easily spend an entire day in there. We spent
about three hours.
Seeing steel crosses, semi-burned flags, boots worn during the attack, and a bible still intact is a feeling like no other. You saw videos of police, firemen, and good samaritans helping out the best they could. While there were feelings of hope and grace, seeing the terrorists plans of attack and daily notes made will cause anger to course through your veins. Chills will stay with you long after visiting. I'm so thankful we were able to experience this.
As soon as we walked out of the museum, we all realized we needed food and STAT. We hailed a cab and headed over to Brooklyn to eat lunch at Grimaldi's under the Brooklyn Bridge. There's no way to describe how incredible this pizza was. True New York pizza and I think I could have eaten the entire thing. Next time in NYC, I'm planning on like five pizza stops :)
Ready for some yummy pizza! |
After pizza, we walked down to the water, looked around, and made our way up to the Brooklyn Bridge. We briskly walked across (trying to make our ferry ride in time) while stopping for a few touristy pics along the way.
Once off the bridge, we made our way further downtown toward the Staten Island Ferry which leaves from Battery Park. On our way, we passed by Wall Street. And a movie set. We waited for a few minutes hoping to see someone famous when I heard someone ask a producer if this was a Netflix movie, with the response of, "I don't know man, it's a Korean movie." And, on we went.
Back on track for the ferry, we made it in time for the 4 o'clock departure. We got on, we saw Lady Liberty, had an enjoyable water ride, and we ran like crazy people made it back on the returning ferry.
From Battery Park, at about 5 pm now, we took a subway up to SOHO for a little shopping. We walked around the cute shops and stopped at a few places like DASH and Alex & Ani.
Look how cute the stone streets are! |
And the buildings! Love SOHO. |
By this time, we knew we were getting into a time crunch. We took a subway back up to Times Square to find the Yankees Clubhouse Store. You can't go to a Yankees game without looking like a true Yankees fan, right? We split up and eventually headed back to the hotel to quickly get ready for the game. At this point, we knew we were gonna be late.
At about 7:45 we hopped on a subway and made our way to the stadium in a nice and crowded subway car. We arrived about 20 minutes late, crossed the street and were right at the stadium. Subway was definitely the best form of transportation.
This game was so much fun!
Yankees vs. Boston: a baseball lovers dream
having SO much fun! |
Yankees win! |
After the game, us and the rest of Manhattan decided to get on the subway. Every one of us came home and took a shower because of how gross we felt after that ride home. About a 45 minute ride, packed in like Sardines, in 90 degrees July weather. Sounds like a perfect combination, right?
We got back to the hotel a little after 1 am. But looking back at our walk in, you would never know it! That's something I loved so much about this city. It really is the city that never sleeps. No matter what time of the day you are up, you are sure to not be the only one.
That concludes Day 3!
On to Day 4, our last day [insert me sobbing]...
Our alarm went off around 7 am on Monday morning, and we collectively agreed to snooze it for an hour. We finally started moving and headed to the Today Show in Rockefeller Center to start off our day.
After the Today Show, we headed back to the hotel, packed up, and had the hotel hold our bags again while we set out for our half-day.
We walked to Grand Central Terminal and explored. It was supposed to be about a fifteen minute walk that I'm pretty sure turned into about thirty. Don't ask me how.
This place was incredible |
While we were standing in Grand Central, we checked the time and realized our brunch reservations at Sarabeth's Central Park South was quickly approaching and we were not going to make it at our current pace. Reservations are cancelled if not accepted within fifteen minutes, so we were on the move! Brenley and I literally left our moms and directed ourselves. Thankfully, we had learned the roads and gotten a sense of direction by this time. We took off, jaywalking when needed and even jogging at times in order to make it to Sarabeth's.
We stumbled upon this place on our |
We arrived with about three minutes before they were cancelled! And everyone said AMEN. Our moms finally caught up and we had the most incredible breakfast on Earth.
Toasted Coconut Mango Waffles with Mimosas. I'm still drooling! |
We went back to the hotel, gathered our bags, called an uber and headed to the airport. Due to unexpected and dangerous weather in the areas, our flight was delayed and once we were on the plane we sat on the tarmac for over an hour. So needless to say once that plane took off we were four happy girls. We landed safely, drove two hours north to Chattanooga, and began planning our next getaway.
Passed this on our way to the airport! |
In review....
My favorite sight: Top of the Rock
My favorite thing we did: Yankees Game
My favorite restaurant: Sarabeth's Central Park South
Over 30 miles walked and 6 miles biked, these girls were tired!
It was such a perfect 21st birthday trip and I couldn't ask for anything more! None of this could have happened without my incredible parents and the Lord for keeping us safe.
I'm a lucky lucky girl!
