New York City - Part 1

10:15:00 AM

New York City!
How has this trip already come and gone?!

This year for my 21st birthday, I got to travel to New York City for the first time and oh my, was it amazing! Crazy, exhausting, chaotic, but amazing! Going into this trip I knew I wanted to be as knowledgeable as possible, so starting about six months prior I began doing my research. I wanted to know all of the best sightseeing spots, dinner stops, subway routes, and everything in between. And I must say, I think we did pretty well for four girls who had never been to the big apple!

The first mention of this trip was on Christmas night between my mom, myself, aunt, and cousin. We had the perfect idea for a summer girls trip. About a month later, everything was booked! Six months after that, we headed to stay the night in Atlanta, wake up at 4 a.m., and head to catch our early morning flight! NYC, here we come!
Such a pretty early morning flight!
We landed around 9 a.m. in New York. We got our bags, called an uber, and headed to our hotel in Midtown. If you're heading to NYC and are unsure of a place to stay, check out the New York Hilton Midtown. This place did not disappoint! Going to NY, you assume you will have the tiniest rooms with little hospitality, but let me assure you this place was the furthest from that. Everyone was so nice, the rooms were spacious, and if four girls can get ready in there each day with no problem, it will work for everyone! It is in the heart of Manhattan seeing as it's in midtown, but you avoid the chaos of places like Times Square. It's the perfect amount of craziness to make you feel like you're in New York, but you aren't suffocating walking out of your hotel.

So first things first... us southern girls gotta eat! We had reservations at the famous Serendipity 3 at Noon on Friday. It was about a twenty-five minute walk from our hotel, so as soon as we had the hotel hold our bags, we set off for lunch!

Look at that menu! This day was HOT. By the time we got to the restaurant we were sweaty, thirsty, and since we hadn't had a bite and had been up since 4 a.m., we were starving!
After a yummy burger and fries, we indulged in their famous Frozen Hot Chocolate. And let me just say, it did not disappoint. Still dreaming of this today!

After our Lunch, we set out for a little sightseeing in the midtown area. We hit Dylan's Candy Bar, Trump Tower, and Tiffany & Co. on the way back to check into our hotel.
For those who don't know, this is Ralph Lauren's daughters candy store. Three stories of pure goodness!
So a little fun fact about our experience. The weekend that we were in NYC, was the same weekend that Trump announced his running mate. On this day, Trump was inside the hotel and we were followed by security everywhere we went. This picture was taken right after we walked out of Trump Tower. A little bit later when we got checked into our hotel, we watch this on the news :)
The necklace: 20 million dollars. The stone: priceless. Ya'll... this picture doesn't even compare to what it looks like in person.

After a little sightseeing, we made it back to our hotel and checked in. We got all dressed and ready for dinner and then set out for our dinner reservations at Tavern 29. Tavern 29 was about a mile south of us, and we figured we would walk and sight see along the way. Well... we got a little lost. We turned right when we should've stayed straight and went a good ways in the wrong direction. [Side note: we called so many restaurants about changing reservations, being lost, checking wait times, etc. and everyone was SO nice! New Yorkers get a bad rap!] We ended up hailing a cab right at five o'clock and got it to take us toward the restaurant. About ten minutes in, and fifteen dollars already tallied on the cab fare, we quickly realized that if this cab was going to make it all the way to our restaurant, we would have a 100 dollar cab bill. So, we hopped out and ate right where we were. Thankfully, we got out at Rockefeller Center so we had quite a few options.
Right when we hopped out of the cab, this was our view. After a minor "got lost" meltdown, St. Patrick's Cathedral was exactly what I needed to see :)
We ended up eating dinner at Rock Center Cafe where we got to experience real New York cheesecake. Heavenly! With some of the best sangria.
Walking out of our dinner restaurant, this was our view in Rockefeller Plaza. Fun fact: this is where the skating rink is in the winter! So neat to see it used for something completely different in warm months.
Just a couple southern girls in rompers making our way around the city :)

We decided to walk around Rockefeller Center before going up to get a bird's eye view! Everybody loves The Tonight Show!

We love The Voice!
To round out the night, we had timed-tickets to go up to Top of the Rock at sunset. Our tickets were for 7:30 and the sun set around 8:25. The view was like no other! One that I will never forget. Top of the Rock gave us 360 degree view of Manhattan. We could see everything from Central Park, the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, and even the Statue of Liberty way off in the distance!
Four [exhausted] girls falling in love with the city!
Forever thankful for this awesome opportunity to spend with my MaMa! Memories I will cherish forever.
Decided to snap this picture at the last minute. Divinity LA has the cutest bracelets that give back to different charities! Everyone should go check them out!
You can't go to New York and not take your Polaroid!
Well, that's Day 1!
Come back tomorrow to see more from New York and our day two! Let me know your favorite spots in the Big Apple or if you have any questions about our adventures!
